CORONADO TRAIL
A true 5-star road for motorcycles. They say there are 427 curves on AZ Road 191 between Clifton and Alpine. The road also has some breathtaking ascents along the way that will keep your engine revving. The most dramatic elevation changes are near the town of Morenci, AZ. In fact, the speed of traffic will slow down to just 10 MPH at certain points.
GET OUTSIDE
The Canyons of Clifton and Morenci offer a variety of hiking trails, off-roading areas, camping sites, hunting areas and tranquil fishing spots. No matter what you enjoy you will find something for you in beautiful Greenlee County. Be sure to stop into the visitors center to get maps and more information on what the area has to offer.
WILDLIFE
From Big Horn Sheep to Javelina and Mountain Lions the unique canyon surroundings of Clifton and Morenci offer a rich environment for spotting wildlife. Clifton is also one of the finest areas for Birding with an environment prime for Northern Cardinals, Red-Tailed Hawks, Cliff Wrens, and Great Blue Herons.
SHOPPING
Arizona historians refer to present day Chase Creek as one of the best preserved examples of Arizona Territorial Period architecture. A walk down Chase Creek Street will bring you right into the 1870's with all the convenience of modern day. Small shops line the streets inviting you in to explore the treasures they hold. Many with hand crafted items made in the community.
HISTORY
Clifton and Morenci are filled with hundreds of years of history. From Spanish Explorer Coronado, Native Americans, and Immigrant Workers the area has a rich and unique culture waiting to be explored. Visit the local historical society museum and explore the historic Clifton Jail and Train Depot as a start to you journey back in time.
COPPER MINE
The Morenci Copper Mine began in the mid 1800's. Originally a traditional underground mine it has grown over the years to become the Largest open pit copper mine in North America and one of the largest in the world. Take a drive north on the scenic Coronado Trail (191) and you will be able to get an inside look at daily mine operations.
